LAKE MESCAR
Brief description of fishery:
Lake Mescar – Where Rods Bend & Carp Pretend They’re Whales
Dug back in 1998, Mescar Lake is a 4.5-acre angler’s playground, complete with 5 inviting bays, 1 mysterious island, and a fish stock list that would make even Poseidon jealous. Popular with beginners, veterans, and anyone who enjoys that satisfying “bend in the rod”, it’s packed with a variety of coarse fish — including plenty of carp big enough to make your landing net nervous.
Who’s in the Water?
- Carp (Mirror & Common) – up to a beefy 23lb
- Bream – to 5lb
- Roach – to 1lb 8oz
- Rudd – to 1lb
- Ide – to 2lb
- Perch – to a chunky 4lb
Depths & Pegs:
Average depth is a comfy 4–5ft, but if you fancy dropping deeper, pegs 19–22 and 56 hit the 6ft mark.

Top Tips (as of 01/05/2025):
- Fish are on the move — start with light feeding and build up as the bites come.
- Don’t forget the margins — those big carp are sneaking in for a snack.
- Keep an eye on activity; the lake’s residents are shifty but hungry.
Hot Baits:
- Pellet (Micro–8mm)
- Bread (Flake & Punch)
- Sweetcorn (because who doesn’t like corn?)
Final verdict: Whether you’re chasing double-figure carp, filling your keepnet with silvers, or just enjoying a day by the water, Mescar Lake serves up a mix of relaxation, excitement, and “did you see the size of that one?!” moments.
